Capture Imagination Music School
Providing professional instruction in music production, songwriting, and music recording techniques.
about the school
The Capture Imagination Music School is an exciting program for kids or adults who have some established musical ability and who want to enter the world of writing, creating, producing, recording, and mixing and mastering music.

We offer private lessons fully online and tailored to the unique needs of our students. Our experienced staff are dedicated to teaching you the ins and outs of introductory to intermediate music production and song crafting techniques.

To be eligible, a student should
-
be able to play at least one instrument at a basic level of competence
-
have or be able to get access to basic recording equipment, including a computer, digital audio workstation (DAW), audio interface, and microphone
Songwriting
These lessons cover song structure, arrangement, instrumentation, creating melodies, harmonization, and more. By the end of the lessons, students will have written at least one full song in a style of their choice.

This course does not require recording equipment if the student does not want to record their song.
Music Production
Our flagship course, these lessons include modern music production techniques, focusing on production from the home studio. Through this course, students will learn about tracking (recording), microphone selection and placement, and working with digital audio workstations (DAWs). More advanced lessons will also include post-production techniques such as EQ, compression, and other processing techniques for mixing and mastering. These lessons are tailored to a student's experience level and age/maturity, so that beginners can still learn enough to produce a song while more experienced students will also receive instruction in professional audio engineering. At the end of this course, students will have a fully recorded song which they can share with others (covers are allowed).

To enroll in this course, you will need a good computer, an audio interface, and a DAW. You may want a microphone too if you plan to record vocals. We can recommend some options for each of these if needed. There are some free DAWs available to save costs, and you can get very low cost interfaces and microphones too (<$50 each).

For DAW, we recommend Ableton Live 11. It's what we use and is excellent for at-home music producers. The Intro version is enough for this course.
Build-your-own course
We also allow students to essentially build their own courses according to their needs. Just reach out to us to schedule a phone call, and we will discuss what you're looking for and how we can build a course to suit your needs. Some ideas may include
-
a combo course of songwriting + music production, where students both create and produce/record their own original song
-
music performance
-
music theory
-
gear
